Who Can Purchase Cannabis in Vermont?

In Vermont, adults 21 and older can legally purchase cannabis from licensed dispensaries. A valid government-issued ID is required at the time of purchase.

Federal property (national parks, post offices, etc.)

You can legally transport cannabis in Vermont if:

It remains in a sealed package and is inaccessible while driving.

It is not consumed inside the vehicle.

However, taking cannabis across state lines is illegal, even if both states have legalized it.

Yes, adults 21 and older may gift cannabis to another adult over 21 without receiving compensation. However, it is illegal to:

  • Sell cannabis without a license
  • Give cannabis to minors
  • Exchange cannabis in connection with a sale of another item (e.g., “gifting” cannabis with a purchase of another product)

Licensed dispensaries in Vermont offer:
